C&O Canal Towpath
A 184.5 mile path along the C&O Canal, stretching from Washington D.C to Cumberland, MD. Running alongside the Potomac River, it was once a busy transportation way, operating from 1831 to 1924. It has since been retired, and is now the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park, with its most famous location at Great Falls.

A scenic locale with more than 7 miles of trails, including the Canyon Trail, Upland Trail, and Muddy Branch Trail. These historic trails here have been used during the Civil War, and remain a relic of the past.

Muddy Branch Trail
This 9 mile trail system runs along the Muddy Branch Stream, spanning from MD 28, into Blockhouse Point Conservation Park, and up to the C&O Canal. This trail sports multiple entrances; one on Great Seneca Highway, and another on Muddy Branch Road. Other entrances include those on Quince Orchard Rd, Query Mill Rd, Esworthy Rd, and in Blockhouse Point Park.

Seneca Creek State Park

This beautiful Maryland State Park is home to Clopper Lake, a 90-acre lake surrounded by lush forests. Its popular Lakeside Trail loops around Clopper Lake, running a total of 3.75 miles.
Seneca Creek State Park also contains many other trails, adding up to a grand total of 50 miles of trails. Some other trails include the 1.25 mile Great Seneca Trail, the 5.8 mile Seneca Ridge Trail, and the 16.5 mile Seneca Greenway.
